I fortuitously landed on a free hotel room for 4 nights, so I seized the opportunity not only to conduct a social experiment, but also to explore my own process in creating spaces for human interaction.
TIME: By the time I accepted the opportunity, I was left with 2 evenings (due to full-time job) and 1 day until Sunday. Hence, the project needs to be simple in order to be effective.
MANPOWER: Only my partner Yu-Ting and I were the only ones involved in the project; we needed to ideate, construct, and conduct.
SPACE: The room itself imposes physical restrictions: immobile furniture, shabby condition, inconvenient outlet locations. More importantly, I must not damage anything.
What would you do in a free hotel room for an afternoon?
Allowing the public to enter the room for an afternoon, we will give participants the creative freedom to use the room as they wish. In the meantime, we observe, document, and produce a project out of our social experiment.
